Mountain Training - Climbing Wall Instructor

A nationally recognised award for those wanting to supervise climbing activities on artificial structures such as indoor climbing walls or mobile towers

This is a national award which allows the bearer to teach and supervise groups and individuals at any artificial structure in the British Isles. The Climbing Wall Instructor is primarily concerned with ensuring good practice, leading to the safe enjoyment of climbing activities, and to an understanding of the sport. It covers the supervision and management of activities such as bouldering, the teaching of basic movement skills and roped climbing, excluding the teaching of leading. An additional module is available for those candidates who wish to supervise abseiling and top roping for those walls and structures which have top access.

Climbing Wall Instructor Training: This must last a minimum of 12 hours and currently takes place on 3 evenings during the week.

Climbing Wall Instructor Abseil Module Training: This must last a minimum of 4 hours and can only be done once the basic training has been undertaken

Climbing Wall Instructor - Assessment: This will take 6 hours plus 2 hours for the abseil module and is usually done in one day. Candidates will only be able to progress onto the abseil module assessment once they successfully complete the main award assessment.
