Introduction to leading ‘Trad’ routes

The course will look at those essential techniques and skills which will limit risks to the 'new' leader. The programme will look at choice of equipment, judgement of anchors both main and running, gear placements and belaying techniques. The course participants should leave feeling confident they are armed and ready to tackle single pitch climbs without supervision.

Ideally candidates should have climbed outdoors on a number of occasions and have either seconded or top roped routes or attended the ROXCOOL 'Climbing Outdoors' course. You may also have climbed and led routes on artificial structures or climbing walls but want to try leading using leader placed protection.
